5 Reasons to Study Abroad in Mexico

1

Skip the cold winters and head on down to sunny Mexico! As a study destination, Mexico has many excellent options to offer students, and there’s so much to love about the country, from its sandy beaches to its warm and friendly locals! Here are five incredible reasons to choose Mexico for your studies!

1. You’ll love the food!

Enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine everyday! Some favourites to look forward to are Tacos (of course), Ceviche and Machaca. For dessert, make sure to pick up freshly made Churros or deep-fried ice cream. And don’t forget to try the Tequila.  If you’re feeling brave enough, dare to eat the worm!

2. Celebrate like a Local!

Mexicans sure know how to throw a party! During your stay in Mexico, you’ll likely get to experience a few mind-blowing festivals. Some of the most popular annual festivals are Cinco de Mayo, Mexican Independence Day, and Día de los Muertos (the day of the dead). Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5th and commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It’s an amazing event, celebrated with dancing, parades, music and a ton of colour everywhere!

3. World class education!

Mexico isn’t just about beaches and sunshine… it also offers an array of excellent education options! Mexico has over 2,000 higher education institutions offering a  wide variety of program options; to name a few, Mexico attracts students interested in economics, social sciences, ancient history, Spanish language, literature, and politics. If you’re unable to commit the time to a whole degree, Mexican educational institutes offer shorter- term options, for example a semester abroad, language courses and other summer programs.

4. Learn a second language!

What better way to learn Spanish than by living in Mexico and practicing with the locals! Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, so being able to speak it fluently will look great on your resumé and can be a great step towards an international career. Impress your friends and future employers with your newly learned second language!

5. You really can afford it!

There is a huge benefit to studying in Mexico… the cost! Mexican universities offer education at relatively low tuition rates and the cost of living is quite a lot cheaper than Canada. Food and drink will cost a fraction of what it costs at home and many historical sites and museums offer student discounts or free entry with a student card. Saving money on food, tuition and accommodation will enable you to spend more on travel and excursions.

With all that Mexico has to offer, I’m sure you’re off buying your ticket right now. Enjoy the sunshine, inspiring sites, and lively culture; you’ll be glad you chose to study in Mexico!
