The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a world top 100 university (QS 2021) and Western Australia’s number one ranked university for graduate employability (QS Graduate Employability 2020).
UWA is located in Perth — Australia’s fourth largest city, which was recently ranked the sixth most liveable city in the world (Economist Intelligence Unit Global Liveability Index 2021). The economy in Perth is thriving and the job opportunities are numerous. Annual incomes are 8% above the national average (Australian Bureau of Statistics, May 2020) and Perth is the corporate headquarters of more than 30% of businesses on the Australian Stock Exchange and six of the world’s top 10 energy companies, meaning that when students are ready to launch their careers, they’ll be able to do so with ease.
UWA’s experience-rich curriculum and global network prepare students for the ever-changing world. The broad course offering includes undergraduate degrees, postgraduate pathways, postgraduate coursework and research degrees and a range of micro-credentials and professional short courses.
UWA students are equipped with communication and critical thinking skills to the highest international standards, and are taught to have a broad, global perspective. It all begins with mentorship and guidance, where UWA’s highly-skilled academic staff, career advisers and industry experts join forces to identify opportunities in line with each student’s aspirations.
Ananya Rao, an international student from India, has commenced her degree online from New Delhi until she is able to come to Australia and study in person. Ananya who is studying a Bachelor of Science, double majoring in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences and Human Resource Management, says although her study has involved online tutorials and recorded lectures, she has made strong connections and has had great international exposure.
“I have met many different people from many different backgrounds, almost every day, which has been the highlight for me in the past three semesters of online study at UWA.
“One of the most enriching experiences was when I had the opportunity to pursue a module at the University of Liverpool through UWA’s Study Abroad and Exchange program. I met highly accomplished teachers who are masters in their fields, as well as students from various countries. It was a memorable experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.”
The small class sizes, aimed at encouraging interactive group work and participation, are teaching Ananya about teamwork and collaboration, and UWA offers a range of scholarships which Ananya was excited to qualify for. The Global Excellence Scholarship awards up to AU$48,000 over four years, or AU$36,000 over three years, to qualifying undergraduates from eligible countries and programs including the USA and Canada, and up to AU$24,000 over two years to postgraduate students from 2022.
